Kalijn Bol, affiliated with the Depts. of Tumor Immunology and Medical Oncology, theme Cancer development and immune defense, received the "Thesis of the year award in the field of Oncology" at the Oncologiedagen voor Nederland en Vlaanderen. The award was presented by the president of the Dutch society for Medical Oncology (NVMO). Last September, she defended her thesis entitled “Dendritic-cell based immunotherapy in melanoma” with honors.
Her thesis supervisors were Prof. Jolanda de Vries and Prof. Winald Gerritsen. She combined her work as a PhD student with her residency in Internal Medicine. She currently works as a resident at the Canisius Wilhemina Hospital (CWZ) in Nijmegen and continues to stay involved in the (upcoming) clinical trials with dendritic cell vaccination in melanoma patients.
