A prestigious Insititute for Chemical Immunology tenure track fellowship (1.1 M€) was recently awarded to Dr. Martijn Verdoes from the Dept. of Tumor Immunology, theme Cancer Development and Immune Defence. On top of this, he received an ERC starting grant (1.5 M€) for his research proposal titled “Checkpoints in Check: Novel Chemical Toolbox for Local Cancer Immunotherapy”. The goal is to establish a chemistry-based precision immunotherapy platform, with the aim to develop novel, highly defined molecular structures to attack cancer from multiple immunological angles simultaneously. For example, using a new technology dendritic cell targeted personalized anticancer vaccines will be synthesized as well as local and conditional molecular modulators of the immunosuppressive tumour microenvironment.
